Wellbeing
Wellbeing is at the heart of life in our school. We support students’ personal, social and emotional development through a broad and inclusive wellbeing programme, which includes SPHE, CSPE, Digital Media Literacy and Preparation for Work as part of Transition Year. All students also take part in Physical Education, promoting active, healthy lifestyles and the importance of balance between physical and mental wellbeing.
Our wellbeing provision is guided by the six wellbeing indicators: Active, Responsible, Connected, Resilient, Respected and Aware. Through curriculum subjects, extracurricular activities and whole-school initiatives, students are encouraged to be physically active, to take responsibility for their actions and learning, to build positive relationships, to develop resilience, to feel respected and included, and to grow in self-awareness and confidence.
We are committed to a positive and supportive school climate through the use of restorative practice. This approach focuses on building strong relationships, open communication, and mutual respect. When challenges arise, restorative practice encourages reflection, accountability and repair, helping students learn from their experiences and strengthening their sense of belonging within the school community.
Student voice is central to promoting wellbeing and inclusion in our school. Our Amber Flag committee empowers students to lead and promote positive mental health initiatives, including the organisation of our annual Wellbeing Week. The Allies Club plays an important role in fostering a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ students and allies. This club also leads the school’s annual Stand Up! Week, promoting respect, equality and acceptance for all.
We also celebrate diversity and inclusion through Culture Week, where students are encouraged to share their own traditions and explore and appreciate the cultures of others. Together, these initiatives help to create a caring, inclusive and positive environment where every student can thrive.
